Pianist Idee Kwak, after making her New York debut in 1954, performed throughout her childhood including appearances at Town Hall, at Carnegie Hall and on national television.
Completing her training at Mannes College of Music by the age of twelve, she holds advanced degrees from the College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, Peabody Conservatory, Johns Hopkins University. Her teaching career began at the University of Florida, Gainesville; she subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Georgia, Kennesaw, and performed with Sung Kwak, Exxon Arts Endowment Conductor, Atlanta Symphony. Married to Maestro Kwak in 1980, she became active with The Cleveland Orchestra and the Austin Symphony as a spokesperson. Idee has made her home in Austin since 1982 and teaches piano and composition from her Northwest Austin home. Affiliated with Sally Jacques Productions since 1990, she is the founding President of the Board of Blue Lapis Light, a position she held until 2010.
