#1 on the Top 9 Lasting Impressions in Dance From 2009 - "Four stories up, seemingly lit by phosphorescence against the infinity of night, harnessed dancers floated through perpendicular somersaults like rotating stars. Spectacle, yes, but the pinnacle of spectacle: the creation of an engrossing otherworld."
#6 on the Top 9 Dance and Classical Music Treasures of 2009 - "In sending more aerial dancers skyward than ever before and having more of them partner together, choreographer Sally Jacques created new wonders in the heavens, airborne duets that intertwined mortality and infinity."
Sally Jacques is featured in the recently released book Site Dance: Choreographers and the Lure of Alternative Spaces

Blue Lapis Light's YOUTH TAKING FLIGHT program let's Austin's youth experience the thrill of aerial dance!
Blue Lapis Light's outreach programs have recently been focused on Youth Taking Flight, which involves a three-year partnership with Austin's McCallum Fine Arts High School to invite area high school students to participate in aerial dance classes, workshops and performances.
Conducted by choreographers/dancers Sally Jacques, Nicole Whiteside and other core members of Blue Lapis Light, these semester-long ongoing classes introduce students to the basic techniques of climbing aerial fabric, moving in harnesses/bungees and dancing in nets and in hoops. Experiencing the joy and possibilities of aerial dance movement and excited by the challenges, students learn to use equipment and gain insight into the imperative for safety, the importance of taking instruction, the satisfaction of disciplined training and the benefits of proper development of strength and agility.
At the end of each semester, the students hold an aerial dance performance for their peers and community.
Instilling confidence and self-esteem through movement, Youth Taking Flight targets teenagers: they are excited by the concept, stimulated by the broad flight through space and once enamored, they are open to new paths of listening and learning.
